A workflow can split in two on one question: did this person accept your connection request? People who accepted go down Yes. Everyone else goes down No. Both branches rejoin below, so steps placed after the branch run for everyone.
Add a branch
- Open Workflows and press Edit on the workflow. The workflow builder opens.
- Click the + where the branch should go and choose If they accepted. You can also drag it there from the Modules list.
- Add steps under Yes and under No with the + on each branch.
- Press Save changes.
A branch with no steps is fine: people on it carry straight on to the steps below. To end the workflow for one branch, put Stop here at its end.
Put a wait in front of it
People rarely accept at once. The usual order is:
- Connection request
- Wait, for example 5 days, with or until they accept my request ticked
- If they accepted
With that box ticked, the wait ends early for someone who accepts, and they go down Yes straight away. Everyone else reaches the branch when the wait is over and goes down No.
How NurtureLead knows who accepted
- It reads your connections on a schedule. You set how often with the Acceptance check every slider, under Replies and follow-ups on the Limits and settings page.
- When a person who was invited reaches the branch and the answer is not known yet, it opens their profile to look. That counts as one profile view.
- A person who was never sent a request goes down No.
What fits on each branch
Send a message and Endorse a skill need a connection, so they belong on the Yes branch. On the No branch they would be skipped.
Steps that work without a connection fit on No: Visit profile, Follow, Like latest post, Send an InMail and Send an email. A second wait and a second If they accepted also fit there, for people who accept late.
Limits
- Branches can sit inside branches, up to 5 levels deep.
- A workflow can have up to 60 steps, counting the steps on every branch.
- Deleting an If they accepted step also deletes the steps on its Yes and No branches.
People already in the workflow
When you save a change, each person stays on their own step, wherever it now sits. If their step was removed, they move to the next step that still exists. The numbers on the cards show how many people are on each step right now.
No branch is needed for replies
The moment someone replies, their workflow stops and the conversation moves to the Inbox. Being on a step at all means the person has not replied. See What happens when someone replies.
