Drafts, auto replies and the rules that always apply

Choose whether the AI drafts replies for your approval or sends them itself, and see the rules it follows either way.

When someone replies, the AI writes the answer. You choose, for each LinkedIn account, whether that answer waits for your approval or goes out by itself.

AI replies are sent from the LinkedIn account, as the account's owner, with no line saying an AI wrote them. You are responsible for every reply sent from your account.

The two reply modes

  • Drafts I approve: the AI writes a draft and you send it from the Inbox.
  • Auto replies: replies go out by themselves after the reply delay. Anything flagged still waits for you.

Auto replies are on Pro, Team and Enterprise. On Starter the AI drafts and you approve each reply.

Choose the mode

  1. Choose the account with the switcher at the top of the sidebar.
  2. Open AI and goals.
  3. Under Reply mode, pick Drafts I approve or Auto replies.
  4. Press Save changes.

The reply delay

An auto reply is not sent at once. It waits a random time between Reply delay, soonest and Reply delay, latest, counted from the other person's message. Both are sliders under Replies and follow-ups on the Limits and settings page. Replies also wait for working hours.

Replies that wait for you even on auto

A reply is flagged, and waits in the Inbox, when:

  • it contains a link the AI wrote itself,
  • it uses a field, such as {calendar}, that has nothing to fill it,
  • it shares your link before the person has shown clear interest,
  • it is longer than 1,200 characters,
  • it confirms a meeting without a clear time, or at a time in the past.

The flag is shown on the draft, so you can fix the text and approve it.

Rules that always apply

These apply to every reply, whatever your playbook says:

  • Links come only from your settings and your knowledge base. The AI never writes a link of its own.
  • It states only facts from your instructions and knowledge base. Anything else is handed to you.
  • On price negotiation or terms, it hands the conversation to you.
  • If someone asks whether they are talking to an AI, it hands the conversation to you.
  • A "no" closes the conversation.
  • Unclear or past meeting times are flagged for you, not booked.

Every reply is written with the whole conversation in view, plus the AI's running notes on where it stands against the goal.

When the AI hands a conversation to you

The conversation moves to Needs you in the Inbox with the reason, and you get the alert A reply is waiting for you. You answer it yourself, or ask the AI for a draft with a steer.

When the allowance is used up

Each account has a monthly allowance of AI replies. Once it is used up, the AI stops writing, and new replies wait in the Inbox for you to answer by hand. See AI reply allowance and top-up packs.

If you move to Starter

Starter has no auto replies. An account that was on auto goes back to Drafts I approve when the plan changes.
